Bio Barrel

Problem Statement

Composting organic waste in a barrel or tumbler at home is an efficient way to manage waste, but it commonly faces challenges related to moisture balance, aeration, and pests. While barrels offer convenience, they often require active management to avoid turning waste into a smelly, anaerobic sludge.

About Bio Barrel

Solution

We built an electronics package consisting of various sensors and a WiFi+Bluetooth enabled microcontroller that can help monitor and report back sensor data. We used a DHT11 sensot for temperature and humidity, a capacitive sensor for moisture, a MQ135 sensor for gases, and a pH sensor to monitor pH levels.
