Gandhi Drinks A Chai Tea

Problem Statement

Access to Primary Education: Children aged 5–10 years in Dharavi slums are often unaware of free school access and the importance of education, leading to high rates of illiteracy in reading, writing, and arithmetic. English Language Barrier: Children aged 6–12 years struggle with learning English due to lack of qualified teachers and infrastructure. This hinders their ability to access higher education, understand public signage, and navigate daily life where English dominates.

Solution

🔹 Prototype #1 – Hand-Drawn Cards Hypothesis: Paper memory cards with hand-drawn visuals can make English learning more fun. Experiment: Tested the game among team members. Results: The game mechanics were understood and engaging; rule explanations worked well. 🔹 Prototype #2 – Improved Paper Cards with Internet Logos Hypothesis: Logos from the internet would make cards more relatable. Experiment: Tested with secondary school children in a classroom. Results: Children enjoyed the game, but improvements were needed in sentence-formation mechanics and card durability. A survey was conducted for further feedback. 🔹 Prototype #3 – Durable, Tech-Integrated Cards Hypothesis: Cards need to be thicker, laser-cut compatible, and potentially integrated with audio output (e.g., speaker says formed sentence). Experiment: Time-consuming logo selection, especially for complex words; initial steps toward tech integration explored.
