Problem Statement

People spend more time on their devices than interacting with their friends and family. We wanted to create a game that is fun, interactive, and encourages movement while still using technology. Many indoor games also become repetitive after a while, so we wanted to make something more fun that friends and family can enjoy together. At the same time, the game helps improve hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and accuracy.

Solution

  We designed an interactive handball target mat that combines physical activity with electronics and real-time scoring. Our project solves this by combining sensors, LEDs, and automatic scoring into an interactive handball target game. Now we use electronics in a more productive way. The game consists of a wall-mounted mat made using velostat pressure sensors connected to an Arduino Mega. A 16×16 RGB LED matrix displays a randomly generated target position for the player to aim at. The player throws or rebounds the ball onto the mat, and the system detects the exact impact position. The closer the ball lands to the centre of the target, the more points the player earns. The OLED display acts as a live scoreboard and shows player turns, scores, and game information. This is a great game for simply having fun with friends and family, or even playing against yourself to better your hand-eye coordination.

How It Works The game starts when the start button is pressed. A random target appears on the RGB LED matrix. The player throws the ball at the mat. The velostat pressure sensor matrix detects where the ball hits. The Arduino calculates how close the hit is to the target. Points are awarded based on accuracy. The OLED display updates the score and changes turns automatically. After multiple rounds, the player/team with the highest score wins.
