Innovative Table Tennis with LED and Sound Sensors for Enhanced Fun

Problem Statement

People across all age groups struggle to find time for recreational activities with friends and family. The idea is to make the game of table tennis more interactive and entertaining through a dynamic feedback system using lights. This enhances enjoyment and provides a quick, simple way to unwind.

About Innovative Table Tennis with LED and Sound Sensors for Enhanced Fun

Solution

Attach one microphone under each side of the table. When the ball bounces, the microphone detects the sound level. Based on the sound, LEDs change color to indicate impact intensity. This makes the game visually interactive and more entertaining for all players, while requiring no effort to learn or adapt.

Additional Info

Idea: Develop an LED-enhanced table tennis table using microphones or pressure sensors that respond to the intensity of sound or impact when the ball hits the table. The LEDs change colors (e.g., from yellow to red) based on how hard or loud the ball is hit, making the game more engaging for both casual and serious players. SDG in Focus: SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing: Encouraging physical activity and play as a form of relaxation and health improvement. Constraints/Challenges: Microphones must clearly detect sound from beneath the table. All sensor-to-Arduino connections must function reliably. LED color changes must accurately reflect sensor data. Solutions Brainstormed: Option 1: Attach pressure sensors under each side of the table. Use Arduino to interpret sensor data and change LED colors accordingly. Option 2 (Finalised): Use microphones under each side to detect the decibel level of the ball impact. This data controls LED color changes. The team found microphones more precise than pressure sensors.
